About

# About Arlington Website Designer

A web design studio in Arlington, Texas, trading since 2020 and working with businesses locally, nationally and internationally.

Since 2020

Trading for five years, in partnership with Web Leveling.

Owner-run

Cal Hewitt and Sharine Booth-Smith, with a team behind them.

Three built sites

GenZ Decoded, Microgreens Guru, DreamTold. All live.

You own the work

Domain, content and analytics in your name, code handed over on request.

## What this business actually does

Websites for small businesses, built as static files, written before they are designed, and handed over in the client's name.

The work is web design, branding, search engine optimization, generative engine optimization, social media marketing, AI services and app development. Most projects start with one of those and end up touching two or three, because the problems overlap more than the service names suggest. A site that cannot be found has a different fault from one pulling in the wrong enquiries, and neither is fixed by redesigning it.

A finished site is a folder of HTML, CSS and image files sitting on a fast host. There is no database, no admin login, and no plugin carrying a version number that has to be kept current. Nothing in it stops working when a subscription lapses, because there is no subscription holding it up.

The domain, the content and the analytics stay the client's. The source code is held in our repository while we maintain the site, and it is handed over in full on request, including if the client decides to work with somebody else. There is no lock-in built into any of it: another developer can take the files and carry on.

## Who runs it

Cal Hewitt and Sharine Booth-Smith own the business, and one of them reads every enquiry that arrives.

Behind them, through the partnership with Web Leveling, is the team that does the work: enough people, with the right mix of skills, that a project gets taken on properly and not fitted around whoever happens to be free. That partnership is named in the footer of every page, on the portfolio, and here.

The business has been trading since the first of January 2020.

## The work you can actually look at

Three sites this business built and owns. All live, all openable right now.

GenZ Decoded is a slang translator and dictionary. Microgreens Guru covers growing microgreens and the state-by-state law on selling them. DreamTold handles dream interpretation drawn from psychology and cultural history. All three are owned projects built in partnership with Web Leveling, and the partnership is named on them exactly as it is here.

Each is a real site you can read, and the same decisions described on this page went into all three.

## Three habits that decide how the work turns out

Each one changes what you receive at the end.

- ### Written before designed

Pages are written first and designed around what they say, so a section is as long as its answer and no longer.

- ### Built as static files

No database, no plugin updates, no admin login. A folder of files on a fast host costs very little to run and gives an attacker nothing to log into.

- ### Yours to take

The domain, the content and the analytics are in the client's name from day one, and the source code is handed over whenever it is asked for. Leaving takes one email.

## Where AI fits, and where it does not

AI tools are used here on research, on drafting, and on the repetitive parts of building a site.

What the tools do not do is decide anything. What a page should say, which facts are true, what the business may claim, whether a thing is worth building at all: those are decided by people and checked by people. Everything published under a client's name is read by somebody who is accountable for it.

There is one specific risk with these tools on a local business page. They are confidently wrong about specifics, and specifics are the entire value of a local page. Coverage, process and timelines are the parts a customer acts on, and they are exactly the parts a tool with no knowledge of your business will invent. So, they are the parts that get checked hardest.

## Common questions

How long have you been doing this?

Since the first of January 2020.

How big is the operation?

Cal Hewitt and Sharine Booth-Smith own the business and one of them reads every enquiry. The partnership with Web Leveling puts the right people behind them for whatever the job needs.

Can I see work you have done?

Yes. Three, live and openable right now: \[GenZ Decoded\](https://genzdecoded.com), a slang translator and dictionary; \[Microgreens Guru\](https://microgreensguru.com), growing microgreens and the state-by-state law on selling them; and \[DreamTold\](https://dreamtold.com), dream interpretation. Open them, read them, judge them.

Do you only work with businesses in Arlington?

No. We are based in Arlington and we serve the local community here and across twelve neighbouring towns, and we also work nationally and internationally.

Why is there no phone number?

The contact form reaches our team directly and gets a written reply, usually the same day. If you would rather talk, say so in the form with a time that suits you and a call gets arranged.

What do I get at the end of a project?

The live site, your domain, your content and your analytics, plus a written document covering the structure, what was left out and what is still open. The source code is handed over on request, so another developer can pick the site up.

What happens if I want to leave?

You take the site with you. The domain, content and analytics are already yours, and we hand over the source code so another developer can carry on from where we stopped.

## Work with us

Describe what is happening with your site now. Our team reads it, and you will get a reply about scope and the order to do things in.
