What we do

# Services

Seven of them, and most businesses need two or three. This page is mainly about working out which, because buying the wrong one first is the expensive mistake and it is a very easy one to make.

![Website design work on a desktop screen: a wide desk with a desktop monitor showing a plain grey page layout, a printed proof of the same layout lying in front of the keyboard, and a pencil resting across it](https://arlingtonwebsitedesigner.com/images/services-hero-wide.jpg)

Seven services

Each with a page that explains its limits.

Most need two or three

Rarely one, rarely all of them.

Told in order

Which one first, and why that one.

No packages

Each service is priced on its own.

## The seven

- ### Web design

A site that loads immediately, says the right things, and belongs to you. Static pages you own outright, no platform rent, with the writing done before anything is designed.

- ### Branding

The name, the mark and the words a business is recognised by, decided and written down before anything gets designed around them. A brand kit is built for every client here, because the alternative is re-arguing the same questions on every page.

- ### Search engine optimization

The work that decides whether someone searching for what you do in your area ever sees you at all. Mostly a content and structure problem, with a technical floor underneath it.

- ### Generative engine optimization

Being one of the sources an AI assistant reads and names when someone asks it for a recommendation. Overlaps heavily with search, and puts more weight on consistency and on answering early.

- ### Social media marketing

Showing up where people already are, pointing back at pages you own instead of a platform you rent. The profile and consistency work helps whether or not you ever post again.

- ### AI services

Practical automation for the parts of your day that repeat, connected to the tools you already run. Narrow, checkable, and removable if it stops earning its place.

- ### App development

Software for the job your business actually does, when a website on its own cannot carry it. Worth it in a narrower set of cases than a first conversation usually assumes, and priced as software because that is what it is.

## How the seven fit together

They are not seven separate products. They are one problem cut into the pieces a business can actually buy.

The underlying job is that somebody looking for what you sell should find you, understand you quickly, and be able to act. Web design settles what the site says and how it is built. Branding settles what you are called, what you look like and what you claim. Search engine optimization and generative engine optimization decide whether you turn up, in the results list and inside the written answers that increasingly sit above it. Social media marketing is where you are visible before anybody is searching at all. AI services and app development are for when a business needs something to work, not something to read.

Cut that way, most businesses need two or three. A business with a decent site that never surfaces in results needs search work and probably not a rebuild. A business whose name is written three different ways across five pages needs branding before either. A business drowning in the same twelve emails every week may not need a website change at all and may need one workflow automated.

The order matters more than the selection. Branding before design, because a design built around undecided facts gets rearranged when they arrive. Design before search, because search work on a site that cannot be updated is money spent on scaffolding. Everything before an app, because an app is the largest commitment on this page and the easiest one to regret.

## The order that usually holds, and where it does not

There is a default sequence and there are two situations that legitimately break it.

The default runs branding, then design, then search and GEO together, then social, and app or AI work last if at all. It holds because each stage settles questions the next would otherwise reopen, and because reopening them later means paying twice for the same decision.

The first situation that breaks it is a technical emergency. If a site is not being indexed at all, or a rebuild lost every old page address and the enquiries stopped the same week, the search work comes first regardless of what the branding looks like. Nothing else matters while the site is effectively invisible, and that repair is usually fast and cheap relative to what it recovers.

The second is a business that is already busy and simply cannot handle its own admin. There the automation work earns its place immediately, ahead of anything about being found, because being found harder is the last thing that business needs.

Outside those two, the order holds.

## What you can work out before speaking to anyone

Answer these four and you will know roughly which of the seven you are looking at.

Can people find you when they search for what you sell, as opposed to your business name? If they can find the name but not the thing, that is a search and structure problem, not a design one, and no amount of visual work will fix it.

Would a stranger landing on your site understand what you do, who it is for and what happens next, within about fifteen seconds? If not, that is design and writing, and it is worth fixing before spending anything on driving more people to it.

Is your business described the same way everywhere it appears, including on Google, in directories, and on your own pages? Where the answer is no, branding and the fact-tidying that goes with it comes first, because everything downstream inherits the inconsistency.

And is there a task eating hours every week that a machine could plausibly do part of, with a person checking it? If yes, that is the AI conversation, and it is often the one with the fastest payback of anything on this page.

## Questions before you pick one

Which should I start with?

Usually whichever is currently broken, which is seldom the most appealing one. If people cannot find you, search. If people find you and leave, design and writing. If your own details contradict each other, branding first. A first message describing the symptom gets you a specific answer instead of a menu.

Can I buy just one?

Yes, and plenty of people do. Nothing here requires anything else alongside it. Where one service will not work without another, you get told before you buy.

Do I need the AI one?

Most small businesses do not need it first, and some do not need it at all. It earns its place when a specific repetitive task is costing real hours every week, and it does not earn its place as a strategy.

What is GEO, and is it different from SEO?

Generative engine optimization is about being usable inside the written answers that assistants and AI Overviews produce, as well as in the list of links. It overlaps heavily with search work and Google says the same fundamentals apply, so it is usually bought alongside search work and seldom instead of it. The GEO page defines it properly before using the term.

Do you work outside Arlington?

Yes. Thirteen towns have their own pages, and the service work itself is delivered anywhere in the country. Only the local pages are local; the writing, the build and the search work are the same wherever the business sits.

What if none of this is my problem?

Then you will be told so. A meaningful share of first replies say the site is serviceable and the real issue is a business listing, a missing page, or something that is not a website problem at all.

## Not sure which one you need?

Describe the symptom rather than picking a service. The address of your site, the thing you want more of, and what is currently going wrong. You will get told which of the seven that points at, and in what order.
