Who is writing
Cal Hewitt co-owns Arlington Website Designer with Sharine Booth-Smith. The business has traded since 2020 and works in partnership with Web Leveling, where Cal is the founder.
He still builds. When you write in, he is the one who reads it. When a site gets designed, coded or migrated, his hands are on it. These posts carry his name because he writes them.
Before this
More than two decades as a business analyst, manager and consultant in banking and energy. That work is where the habit of asking what a project is actually for came from, because in those rooms a requirement nobody could justify got cut before anyone wrote code.
The web work came after, at a smaller scale and with the same first question. He also writes outside this site, in ebooks and white papers, which is a slower way to find out whether you understand something than talking about it is.
How the posts get written
The post on website ownership opens with somebody who has asked their provider for the login and been told the build was licensed instead of sold. That is where it starts because that is the sentence that sends people searching at nine at night.
It then answers in the order the reader needs: what the four assets actually are, how to check which ones you hold, what the paperwork decides, how long a handover takes, what it costs.
That post cites 17 U.S.C. 204, the Copyright Office, ICANN and Google Search Central, and each link opens the page the claim came from.
On AI
The business uses AI tools. Cal's read on them is that individual pieces of a service will need less human touching over time, and more editorial oversight: someone checking that the output is correct and useful to a real person before it reaches a reader.
The tools do more of the typing, and he owns the judgement on what gets published here.
